Resurrection – the Victory of God’s Mercy

Dear Friends of St.Mark’s Parish

Resurrection is the foundation of the Christian faith. If Christ is not risen, Christianity would not exist.

Resurrection affirmed not only the faith of the disciples, apostles and his followers but also affirms our faith now and for future generations.

At the beginning of the Easter vigil, we sing the exultet:

O wonder of your humble care for us!
O love, O charity beyond all telling,
To ransom a slave you gave away your son!
O truly necessary sin of Adam,
Destroyed completely by the death of Christ!
O happy fault that earned so great, so glorious a Redeemer!

God the Father responds to the greatest sin of the world. In Romans 4:25, Jesus was raised from the dead not “for our condemnation” but “for our justification”.

The victory of the resurrection occurs in mystery, without many witnesses. A large crowd saw his death. but once risen. he appears only to a limited group of witnesses away from crowds. Why did Jesus not appear to the crowds? A fellow priest once said to me that a resurrection is a school of mercy. He is risen again to affirm our faith and to show mercy to the sinners who crucified him. So Christ’s resurrection is truly the victory of God’s mercy. God liberated the people from slavery, Christ liberated us from our sins. Let us experience the victory of God’s mercy as we proclaim his Resurrection.

The parish staff – Fr. Joseph Vu, Srs Jana and Gracia, Joy (Parish Secretary) and I wish you all a Happy Easter…

May the risen Christ fill your hearts and families with his mercy.

Yours in the Divine Word,
Fr.Stephen Pilly SVD
